East Timor businesspeople plan to promote coffee production in Mozambique

JULY 22ND, 2013    NEWS

A group of investors from Timor-Leste (East Timor) is expected to visit Mozambique in 2014 in order to promote coffee production for domestic consumption and export to the Asian market, the East Timor ambassador to Mozambique said.

Cited by Mozambican daily newspaper Correio da Manhã, ambassador Marina Alkatir also said that commercial feasibility and environmental impact studies would be carried out in several regions of Central and Northern Mozambique considered to be potential areas to produce organic coffee, “without causing much negative environmental impact.”

Alkatir noted that investors from East Timor would be part of a Timorese business mission that is due to visit Mozambique next year. The mission is expected to analyse other areas of potential investment in the agriculture and oil and gas sectors and to gather information about justice, higher education and police training.

The ambassador’s statement was made Wednesday in Maputo, on the sidelines of the first public-private economic and business meeting of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) held with a view to setting up a new model for relationships and to speed up the processes of administrative, judicial, fiscal and customs reforms.
